Nalgene Wide Mouth Cantene

This collapsable Nalgene bottle is a must-have on any backpacking trip. I can think of no other more valuable and lightweight water-storage device to have and use than this one. I purchased the 48oz. one for a two-person backpacking trip where natural water sources were scarce. Along with a water purifier (Katadyn Hiker, that fit the bottle mouth perfectly), we gathered water for meal times, and stored water for the early morning breakfast. This bottle worked in conjunction with a couple of 20oz. water bottles for the actual day hiking. The bottle weighs in at a scant 2.3 oz empty, and takes up almost no room in the backpack. This is a must-have on all my future backpacking trips...five stars!

Holds water and is robust. Initially I was a little concerned about putting a plastic bag full of water in with the rest of my pack but no problems. I like the idea that the backpack gets lighter and smaller as you hike.

Hint: don''t freeze the bladder unless you plan on a two-day hike; it stays frozen /really/ well. ;-)

This is my pee bottle. On those frigid nights when I don''t want to step outside of the tent to answer nature''s call, it does its job and it does it well. It goes into the bottom of the sleeping bag so it doesn''t freeze before morning. It hasn''t yet leaked (thank goodness). After being emptied out in the morning, tt goes back into my pack where it takes up minimal space.

I can''t think of a better pee bottle for winter backpacking. :)

I own, and have exclusively used these canteens for about 10 years. When not in use, they roll/fold and take up very little pack space. Not one of them has cracked, burst, or leaked. I''ve even thrown a full one as high as I could to demonstrate its durability to a skeptical trail buddy...he still owes me 20 bucks for losing the bet.

I just received this cantene today. I filled it up and held it by the loop. (which in the picture it is a slit, but the one i received is a loop circle about a inch and a half size.) But the cantene held up good. Just from shaking and holding the cantene by the loop. I beleive if i hook it to my pack that it will not rip. But i have not used it in the backcountry yet. and when i do maybe i will update this review. but as of right now i am very pleased of the product and of GearX. i recieved it in three days. Nathan 700ml Tritan Bottle with Flip Straw

I purchased this because I am a clutz. I spilled a glass of juice on my laptop, and the cost of repair was horrible. I work for hours at a time at the computer, and need to have something to drink, this bottle is perfect. It can fall over and not spill, it doesn''t have to be lifted up like a glass does, because the straw draws the liquid from the bottom of the bottle, and it holds enough to keep it from having to be replenished too often. When I purchased it, I didn''t know it didn''t have to be lifted to drink , I thought it was like drinking from a spout, so that was a great plus for me.

After searching for the perfect water bottle, I bought two of these for myself and my husband. We both like the size, the spout, (though neither of us use the orange part that is removable), the extra straws, but the bottle is leaky through the straw, especially if you leave it in the car or change elevation. If you flip open the spout, you will have water spout out the top all over you. I just filled the bottle with slightly cold water, left the spout open sitting on a table and it has a big bubble of water sitting on the top of the spout just waiting to spill on me or the table.

Another issue is that when we first got the bottles, they had a really bad odor. I washed by hand, soaked, washed in dishwasher, nothing helped. I had to call the company. They said they didn''t know anything about it, but that lemon juice might help. I tried the lemon juice several times and it finally helped. This seems like too much trouble from a brand new product.

I just bought my first nathan bottle for my almost 5 year-old. His 12 oz. thermos foogo bottles just wouldn''t hold enough water for the 96 degree heat of soccer season. This bottle has been super. No bad smell, no leaks, tastes fine. I like the wide spout as it''s easy to fill with ice. I''ve borrowed it to take to my stroller strides class, and I like that it fits in my cup holder and I can just flip up the straw to drink, without having to pick up the bottle at all! It does sweat a little, as do all plastic bottles. And it doesn''t stay cold very long, which my son was quick to point out. I wish they would make it like the thermos double-walled vaccuum bottles that keep cold for many hours. I may try it with my BuiltNY neoprene sleeve to see if that helps at all. ALL straw bottles will spurt a little liquid if the pressure changes, including the thermos foogo ones. Nothing you can do about it except to unscrew the cap a little to release the pressure before flipping up the straw to drink. I have not had to do this with our bottle and it has never spurted water at us yet, but we haven''t taken it up in the air or changed altitudes much. We''re pleased with it overall.

Until I got one of these for myself I would see runners wearing these and think, "Really? Is it that hard to just pin the bib to your shirt?" But now that I''ve had this thing for almost a year and used it in over 40 races, I can''t imagine going back. It''s durable, easy to tighten and loosen and easily snaps on and off.

It''s especially helpful when you''re running in unpredictable weather you don''t have to worry about deciding between pinning the bib to your jacket or your shirt. If it gets hot you just take your jacket off and your bib''s still there. Get cold, put your jacket on and pull the bib back over it. I have no improvement suggestions for this belt because it does exactly what I''m looking for the ones that hold water and lots of Gu are too elaborate this one just holds the bib.

bought two of these to wrap around my tank bag on the motorcycle. put them on the same belt, and fit very well... bottles are o.k. qualitygood seal and no leaks, but fear they will not last too long due to thin plastic. but the belt and holders are very well made and were much better quality than i expected for the price . highly recommend

I had a week long backpacking trip into the backwoods and this worked perfectly. Nice and sturdy. No problems with leaks the whole trip. Not exactly rigid but definitely formed. I agree with another reviewer who said the 2 gallon size is best. It fit right into the pack I had and even when full was still manageable to carry, weight-wise. The expandability is very nice you can probably get around a gallon into the more rigid part of it before the sides even start expanding.

Now though, if you''re not getting this for being able to take water with you when you >need< to have water with you, you might be disappointed. The plastic taste that at least one other reviewer mentioned is the truth. I filled it up and let the water sit a couple times before I left to try to leach the taste out, and even at the end of the trip the taste hadn''t really diminished. It''s not bad, but it is noticeable. I wouldn''t want to use this for any kind of long-term water storage and there''s better things to take if you''re just car camping, but for backpacking or a grab-some-stuff-and-go situation it''s the best.

Updated 2012-07-09:

After only a few uses, I noticed that a leak had developed in the cap. Closer inspection revealed that the thin white rubber gasket in the cap, that seals against the lip of the jug, had shifted and folded over a bit, causing the leak. I moved the gasket back to its original position and that fixed the leak, until the gasket shifted again. The gasket seems a bit too small for the purpose.

Due to the leak problem, I''m changing my rating from 5 stars to 3 stars.

I''ve been looking for a decent sized water bottle for hiking during the hot days of summer, and I thought that this might be it. 17 ounces is sufficient for my shot hikes, enough at least to keep me hydrated. But in addition to the amount, I wanted the convenience of something I can carry in my pocket of cargo jeans or shorts. This isn''t quite it, and I''ll tell you why...

In order to get this to fold flat when not in use, it has rather sharp corners like a bag that you''ve folded, but a heavy plastic bag which catch on your pockets. In other words, after each sip, you have to get it back into your pocket and that isn''t as easy as it sounds. What they should have done is made the bottom narrower than the top so that it just slips into a pocket.

The fact that it''s foldable makes little difference until it''s empty. That you can freeze it is great up to a point. When fully frozen, the bottom becomes enlarged to the point where it doesn''t really fit into any of my pockets, SO if you are going to freeze it, lay it down in the freezer. It will still get larger, but at least the bulk will be evenly spread. Oh, and frozen water will be about 14-15 ounces, so you might want to stop just before it''s rock solid.

Again, the idea has merit, but so does hiring a gun bearer to carry your gear and call you "Bwana."

I work at a construction compound as Project Manager for multiple projects so unfortunately I spend the day literally strapped down to my desk reviewing pay apps, arguing with contractors and answering design questions. We have this one really pathetic water tank that is always malfunctioning and I often find myself having to run to the grocery store to buy bottled water. Oh yeah dont let me get started with the nasty looking water spout. Ugh!!!! Some people think it''s okay to stick the spout into their water bottles when refilling. Anyway, I remember once having a bottle similar to this through brita. I have to say that I find this bottle much better. I prefer the straw and also I find that the water dispenses pretty easily. For each bottle your given a filter that can work for 3-6 months depending on how much water you drink. Also you get a spare. The best part is refilling. The top comes off giving you plenty of fill room and the filter doesnt take up alot of space in the bottle. This is really a great product. Also you can monitor the water level as you drink. Nothing worse then getting stuck in a 4 hr meeting with boss and his counterparts and you go to drink some water only to realize at the last minute IT''s EMPTY?!?!?

There is only one design flaw but I understand what it is there for. At the top of the bottle next to the drinking straw there is a small air spout. The spout is basically to maintain the bottle''s shape as you suck water out of it. As soon as you finish drinking the spout takes air in so the bottle will reinflate. The only problem is when the bottle is full and you tilt or squeeze it while drinking, the spout will leak water. But just a little. Nothing to freak out about.

Overall the product is great. I went over board when I bought two bottles for just myself. They way I drink water it will probably last me for 2 years because I only use them at work! All the same it is quit comforting to know that I''ll have water covered when I go to work. In a construction compound in the hot and sticky south with alot of field personel, water is almost more valuable than money!

These bottles are great. I used to take bottled water with me to work every day. Now I just take this reusable bottle and fill it with tap water. It''s very convenient and it works great.

I''ve used this bottle for three weeks now and I have zero complaints. I bought it because I am staying in Los Angeles for a couple of months and the water tastes like a swimming pool down here. The filter significantly reduces the bad taste in the municipal water. The water does NOT taste like distilled waterit still has a little flavor compared to purified bottled water. I throw it in my backpack and it does not leak, and it is not hard to suck the water through the filter. Great product for the price.

I agree with another user that the unit is hard to suck the water out of. That is why I believe the unit could be better. if the pickup tube was bigger in diameter, I believe the unit could deliver water faster. I like the flip straw since you do not have to touch the straw with your fingers. The wide mouth lid is nice also. the size is comfortable.

The only real complaint is the slow filtering.

I was able to fix mine by taking my smallest drill bit and drilling out the very small holes in the top opening of the filter itself. Now I do not have to suck real hard to get water through the filter. It is a little hard to explain, but on the side of the filter that has the hose connected, if you look inside that hole, you will see 4 very small holes. I opened up those 4 holes a little bit and now the water flows much better. It is like the molding of the plastic is not keeping the holes open.

Granted, you should not have to fix something you just purchased, but if you are having a water flow problem, this might work for you or you can just send it back for a refund wince it was purchased through Amazon.

It''s not a heavy-duty thick plastic like some bottles and not insulated, and may not be the prettiest thing in the world (meaning I can''t get it in a rainbow of colors), but it''s BPA free, made in America and the absolute practicality and ease of use beats fancy looks any day of the week! I didn''t need insulation and prefer my water bottles be lightweight since I''m going to carry it around with me. I like it so much I will probably buy another for traveling and definitely recommend it to friends and family. Hydrapak Quantum Clip Magnetic Clip

This is an awesome idea, i can''t stand the dangling tube otherwise, but the magnet seems quite weak.... Make a stronger magnet and you would have a great product. The clip is well made and can fit on different straps of your pack, as you like.

I bought this as a replacement for my first clip because it fell off (or was other wise lost somehow). this one is still on. i''m still trying to figure out where the best place for the magnet is, but it''s definitely better than having no magnet at all. just be sure it''s on tight

I bought this for my Camelbak Octane LR and Cloudwalker. It''s a great ideamagnetic clip, easy to grab and put back, but practically it doesn''t work so great.

The plastic is made cheaplyfor almost $8 I expected a little better quality. It feels comparable to dollar store quality. The clip doesn''t hold onto the Camelbak straps very well and the Camelbak reservoir tube sits loosly in it.

I think it''s a great idea, it was just executed poorly. I bought it because the other reviewer used it on his Camelbak and gave it 5 stars. I certainly don''t anticipate buying from Hydropack in the futureperhaps if Camelbak designed a clip I may invest in it.

This bag is exactly the right size. With not much else in the bag, two bottles of water will easily fit in the main compartment.
