My husband loves to bike ride and loves his coffee. We have a new coffee shop that opened in our town (about 3 miles from our house) and he loves to ride over there and get a cup of coffee and ride home. The problem was even with his steady hands, he could not keep the standard "to-go" cup with lid not to spill somewhere during his ride home. (Somewhere along his route something would happen that would cause him to need both hands on the handle bars before he finished the coffee.) We looked at getting the coffee cup "ring" holder that goes on his handle bars, but he said he would prefer a mug that fit in his water bottle cage instead. So we bought this flask and it fits perfectly in his standard bike water bottle cage. He has used it several times and it hasn''t spilled and it keeps his coffee hot for a long time.
Since it is insulated it is large looking, however, it holds only about one cup of coffee that can be purchased at a typical coffee house "to go" cup.
We love it and it was worth the extra money (versus other options on Amazon) because he can now enjoy both bike riding and his morning coffee at the same time without spills.Does not explode when coffee added. Works fantastically with all of my bikes. The gasket has a nasty habit of coming loose occasionally, but it''s during cleaning and never a problem to re-seat.I really enjoyed this thermos, it is an excellent insulator and fits in a bike waterbottle cage as advertised. Unfortunately, I did not wash it frequently enough and the top part containing the mouthpiece began to smell like old coffee. I ended up throwing it out. I could not get rid of the smell once it started! To be fair, i didn''t wash it for up to 2 days after using it. Busy schedule.
If you do get this thermos, make sure to wash it right after you use it! Also consider not using for coffee, which made it smell much stronger than when I used it with tea only. If you do that it should be ok, imo. Also be sure to remove the silicon O-rings and wash them separately, as gunk can get trapped in them. This is a "high maintenance" product but it is convenient, stylish and easy to use, and does fit in a bike water bottle holder.
