This cooler works great. We buy a 1 lb bag of ice and add 3-4 gallons of water. This will usually last thru whatever outdoor function we are at (picnics, soccer games, beach). I''d probably fill this dispenser at your destination unless you have a really secure way of keeping the container from going sidewise in your car and spilling.We added the igloo beverage dispenser, but unless you are with a lot of other folks I probably wouldn''t bother and just bring some plastic cups for your family members.
The lid is white and can get dirty easily, but it cleans up well with a soap and water. The container originally has a slightly funky new plastic smell, but scrubbing it with soap and water and letting it air dry out overnight seemed to fix it.
If you add gatorade be prepared for the inside white liner to get stained over time.
The 5 gallon size is much easier to manage than the much larger full size dispenser. This 5 gallon dispenser is easy to handle with one person (even when full), and you even works well for dumping water on the coach at the end of a big game.
