I bought this in spite of the previous review and am very very glad I took the chance.
The "dire" warnings that came with it are simply instructions on how to use it safely in the microwave so you don''t melt it. I followed the instruction and heated it half way then turned it over to finish.
The thick terrycloth cover lets the heat come through keeping your skin safe from burning. The most amazing thing is how long the heat lasts. It provided constant heat for 2-3 hours and was still warm when I put it away.
This is completely inadequate as a hot water bottle -and very expensive too. The instructions carry dire warnings if you heat it too much. Fear of heating adequately, plus the very comfortable but very thick cover, means that very little heat emerged when I used it. I bought a microwavable hot water bottle because I have a long-term hand injury which makes filling a conventional hot water bottle with very hot water too dangerous. This was an expensive mistake of a purchase of course I had to use it (therefore unreturnable) before I knew it would not do the job.
