Reliance Rhino-Pak Heavy Duty Water Container (Grey)

Reliance Rhino-Pak Heavy Duty Water ContainerThis is undoubtedly the best option for carrying water on a vehicle. It''s the heaviest gauge plastic (BPA-free) that I can find; short of a lined metal jerry can, it''s the most durable water carrier out there. Here''s the thing: like all rotomolded products, it has a central seam. This could have used better trimming by the manufacturer. On the other hand, a paring knife and about 2 minutes of my time smoothed the raised central seam so that (1) it will be comfortable to carry, and (2) the vent WILL NOT LEAK. It''s the raised seam on the threaded vent nipple that is the source of leaking that some folks report. Dressing this with a household knife solves the problem entirely. On second thought, I''d rather do this myself than have Rhino do it and charge an extra few dollars for this great can. One star shy of 5 only because this can really does need this tiny bit of owner service before being ready to go.

I wanted a can that would stand up to the rough duty of being strapped to the roof rack while negotiating extremely rough terrain. This one is it. Those molded side panels that lock the cans together really help keep things stable up there, too. We''re going to buy a few more.

I like this container so far. The dimensions allow me to put it inside my ice cube cooler after filling it with ice and the remaining space with water. I get cold water all weekend long plus keeping my food cool. The reversable pouring spout is a little awkward to use, as it always feels as though it will fall into the container. However, the geometry should prevent this, just like a round manhole cover keeps it from falling in. The construction is very rugged, and I like ridges that allow you to stack these side by side or on top of each other. However, the "female" side is a bit bowed out, so I think only the weight of some water would allow these to nest well into each other.

Some reviewers have mentioned that the item leaks. That is because the one issue for which I give this 4 stars instead of 5 is present: The molding seam on most parts of the container is pretty pronounced. I followed the suggestion of another reviewer and took a knife to the seams to deburr them. Specifically, the seams around the spout and the airhole were pretty bad. Once I cleaned up those burrs, there seemed to be no leaking.

The Rhino-Pak I received leaks from the vent cap when laid on its side. Description at Reliance specifically says they are "leak-proof". Have been in contact with Reliance customer service. They sent me two new vent caps; took two weeks to receive. Still leaks with the new caps. Purchased them because it said you can stack them on their sides. I need non-leaking containers, so I will contact customer service again, but probably will send it back for refund.

I wanted containers for emergency water stores at home and definitely wanted heavy duty, BPA-free plastic. I liked the size and shape because it makes them easier for me to store than the square ones. I have four of these and the "interlocking" sides are nice, but the containers bulge a bit when full so, although they still fit together nice and won''t slide around, they are not as tightly fit together as you might think. As other reviewers have mentioned, the seam needs trimmed a bit, though I did not have any problems with them leaking. I would definitely buy again.

The dimensions of this product are grossly in error. It makes a difference when making the decision to purchase the product. Storage and thus the dimensions are the key to the utility of this product. A bit disappointed to say the least. The actual dimensions are L15 X W6 X H18. Other than the wrong dimensions the product seems fine.
