Nalgene ATB All-Terrain Bottle 22 Oz with Black Lid

Nalgene ATB All-Terrain Bottle 22 Oz with Black Lid, BlueThe bubble top, when pushed down, automatically causes the nozzle to retract, so you have double insurance that the water will not leak in your bag.

We have had our 6 year old use lots of different bottles, and this one has been fool proof. The others looked good, but were not foolproof they were not always obviously open, and would leak inside her bookbag.

We are on to our fourth one (lost the other three).

Incredibly, it''s even made in the USA sadly, so few things are.

I have the fatter purple-capped bottle, I''ve used it daily at my desk and on trips for many years, and it''s my favorite bottle ever. It''s #4 plastic, LDPE, one of the safe plastics that doesn''t leach into your drink. Unfortunately it can''t hold hot liquids though.

The cap works extremely well. It is very quick to flip open and closed, stays closed and doesn''t leak, and isn''t very hard to clean. (Sometimes I put it in the dishwasher, but I always hand-wash the bottle part.)

The blue letters and measurements on the side have all but worn off completely. The plastic itself is showing only minor scratches and scuffs. I dropped the cap on concrete recently and the flip-open tab broke off, but there was otherwise no breaking/cracking and it''s still very easy to open by pinching the sides of the cap.

If this one dies, I''ll buy another immediately.

I''ve tried using my road water bottles for off-road riding and it''s amazing how much dirt ends up on the bottles, and in particular on the spout, even when the bottle is shielded by the down-tube on the bike. I don''t enjoy gritty mouthfuls of Cytomax.

So after reading some reviews of this bottle I decided to try one for off-road riding. It absolutely works as intended: the spout stays pretty clean, even on very dusty trails covered with fine powdery sand/dust.

The cap isn''t 100% airtight, so a small amount of dust may infiltrate, but in my experience the spout tends to stay clean-at least the part where I put my lips-so I''ve not had any gritty mouthfuls of Cytomax in a while.

Too, the bottle is nalgene, so the bottom portion is squeezable.

Finally, the mouth on this bottle is nice and wide, so I don''t spill powdered drink mix when filling it, unlike bottles that I have from a different manufacturer.

My only complaint: I wish the capacity was 700ml.

the drinking spout / nozzle takes a bit to get used to, especially while you''re running or riding. i find it opens and closes quite easily and the bouncing during physical activity requires some practice to be able to keep the nozzle open and not close it accidentally.other than that, it''s a great bottle. cleans easy and has a nice nozzle protector.

A water bottle is just a water bottle, right?

I have used many different brands and styles of water bottles. Most have disappointed. Most have leaked or the cap gets all crudded up. This bottle is an exception.

It does not leak. The sport nipple seals tightly and the latching cap protects the nipple from dirt. Yet it has a wide mouth (can accept ice cubes or crushed ice) and a screw on cap (the snap on caps degrade and break after much use). It claims to be BPA-free and it has no plastic taste whatsoever. It fits nicely in a fanny pack I use for walking, replacing a 500 ml bottle.

I have set it on the ground when hiking, and tipped it over. Most other water bottles get dirt on the nipple. Not so this bottle. The snap on cap protects it.

While this bottle is shaped so it will fit in a bicycle''s water bottle cage, it is a bit awkward to work with only one hand. If I took these bottles cycling, I would consider removing the protective cap.

NOTE: My bottle says "made in the USA," not the "Made in China" that this page states.
