Swiss Aluminum M32 Canteen

Where to start... PROS: In design it is a very sturdy design, the cup fits snug (and even if it doesnt, all it takes is some slight bending). On the small side, but for what i was going to be using it for it should have worked well. All I was really hoping for was a metal canteen with a cup.

CONS: I was disappointed... the listing said it was new, but i received this ancient, dented, scratched thing.. the cord that holds the cap rotted through and was otherwise worthless. but all that took was some paracord to fix... the main problem is my cork cap had been stuck in there for quite some time. As I inspected closely, there was a sloshing of liquid inside and evidence that someone had already tried to remove such substance but, in doing so, they had ripped the cork and then decided to shove it back in, as if someone wouldnt notice. The jist of my story is that the metal piece that holds the cork ripped, I pried the rest out with a corkscrew and found the liquid to be (at least what I believed to be) some very, very, very, verrrry OLD RUM!!! with bits and pieces of the interior lining of the canteen littered through out it. I was leaving for a trip a week later from the time I received it. Now I have to decide whether or not to send it back and go without or to take some ingenuity and repair it. all in all, terrible experience. I hope this review helps some people.

This canteen is somewhat small (I''d estimate the capacity at around 500ml) but as sturdy as sturdy gets. I was hesitant about the cork stopper at first, but after using it I''m going to have a hard time to go back to screw-tops. It''s -completelywatertight, even after some rough usage, and much easier to get open with one hand than a screw-top, as well as being much tougher. I bought this and a much larger French canteen at the same time, and the French one''s cap shattered from being dropped (on carpet) the first week. This canteen fits into the nesting cup securely, and also has a string that assists in holding the cup on.

The photos are somewhat lacking, as I was expecting a cylindrical canteen while the actual product is flask-shaped (which I like much better anyway). The only downside to the size/shape is that it does resemble a large flask, and people may think you''ve got something stronger than water inside.

All in all, I love this canteen. I''m apparently rather rough on my drinking containers, and have run the gamut of plastic water bottles and other canteens, and managed to break them all. This one''s still going,and I honestly don''t think I could break it if I tried. This thing will probably outlive me.

Plus, it looks cool.

*Side note: If you do any cold-weather camping/activities, another unexpected advantage of the cork is that you don''t have to worry about the water in your canteen freezing and bursting the cap/sides. As the water freezes and expands, it simply pushes the cork out :D

Saw one of these online and thought it would be perfect for my day hike bag. Turns out I was right! It is small ( about half a liter ) Made by Sigg. It has a baked on coating inside does not affect the taste of the water so far as I can tell. Comes with a nesting cup and the cork lid is affixed with a small piece of cord. Cork was in good condition and doesn''t leak. The canteen has an oval flask like shape which makes for compact carry.

I wanted to find a metal canteen with nesting cup that I could use over an esbit pocket stove for day hikes. This canteen fits the bill. I am pleased with its ruggedness and after cleaning with bleach it holds the water without causing any strong metal taste. It is perfect for day hikes. I was concerned about the cork stopper leaking in my rucksack. It has not leaked even after the bag being tossed and dropped during a day of walking.
