The filter is 2" in diameter and has no problems fitting through the mouth of a widemouth nalgene or nathan stainless bottle, however it will only fit on the kid''s cameback bottle (which has the same threads as nalgene), but not the stainless better bottle. It is however filters down to only 3 microns, so while good for giardia, it doesn''t filter bacteria. Use it with iodine or chlorine tablets if unsure of your water source without waiting 30 minutes or longer to drink.I was excited to see this filter option on Amazon. It promises to offer better water filtration than the chlorine taste/odor filters that are becoming common on many consumer bottles with filters. However, despite the packaging''s claims to turn "any" bottle with a straw into a filtered water bottle it doesn''t. The filters were too big to fit two major brands we tried, and it didn''t fit the straw style on a third bottle. Also, while we were moving the filter (dry/unused) between different bottles to see if it would fit, the bottom separated from the top the filter media inside breaking completely in half. To be fair it may have been cracked during shipping (the box from Amazon was battered and packed insufficiently) although the filters did not appear in any way damaged when removed. Regardless, the filter is much too wide to be realistically used with countless bottles on the market and the straw connection will only work with thick, large water bottle straws, not the smaller straw style that is often used in generic bottles and/or cheap customized bottles printing companies often use.
This filter did not fit in the 24oz Camelbak widemouth stainless bottle it was initially purchased for. Then we started trying other bottles we had. . .
It would not fit in the Nalgene we had. (We did not have the largest widemouth style Nalgene makes).
We found an old, generic water bottle with an uncommonly large opening at the top that the filter actually fit in but that bottle''s straw was too small to fit on the top of the filter.
It is also doubtful it would fit in most of the popular Thermos hydration bottles with pop-up straws, although we didn''t have that brand on hand at the time to test.
I have no idea how well it actually filters or what the water tastes like, because we literally could not find a bottle this filter would work with.
Great idea. Poor execution.
