XLAB Gorilla XT Carbon Cage (Black) Save 31% off

XLAB Gorilla XT Carbon CageI purchased these bottle cages as part of an Xlab hydration setup on my tri bike. I originally had a pair of Bontrager Race Lite cages that looked cool, but I had problems with the bottles launching even on the smallest bumps. I am not willing to sacrifice losing my hydration on race day so I purchased these cages.

Buyer notice know the XT cage is different from the original Gorilla Cage. I called Xlab and found the only difference is the grip strength (2x more than the original Gorilla). Since these are cheaper I do not see why you would go and buy the original cage.

Went out for my first ride with these cages on the same route I lost bottles with the Race Lite setup. Happy to report no problems, the bottles did not move.

No problem inserting/removing the water bottles in the cages.

Never thought I would say buying a $40-50 cage is worth it...but these cages are worth the money.

Great bottle cage. I have three on my tri bike and they actually keep the bottles in place on the hydration seat rack which is a plus on the long races. No downsides unless you''re hands are a bit weak and you don''t have the strength to get the bottle out.

Something listed on the XLAB site but NOT listed in the Amazon auction:

"WARNING: To ensure the best possible fit with the Gorilla Cage, use a bottle that has a groove all the way around that is uniform and fits tightly into the hook at the top of the Gorilla Cage.

Bottles with shorter groves that do not fit properly into the hook like the Camelback Podium, and bottles with grooves that are not uniform around the entire circumference like the Polar Insulated bottles are not recommended for use with the XLAB Gorilla Cage, and in our experience these two bottles do not stay in place on rear carriers due to the lack of groove for the cages to grip."

Sadly I didn''t discover the warning until multiple ejections of Polar bottles and generally having to reinsert the bottles in my wing every 3-6 miles. People rave about the Gorilla cages online, even mountain bikers, so I presume with the right bottles inserted they are incredible. Shame on me for not doing the research in advance and read all the print on their website, but for the price point of $50-60 ($100-120 for the pair on the Carbon Wing), it''s hard to justify my purchase of the system without being able to easily use insulated bottles.

I will re-review after investigating different (larger? better grooved?) bottle options. But still would like to see all their website information and warnings on Amazon as well to prevent people from purchasing the Gorilla XTs and experiencing difficulty for a thousand miles before finally talking to someone who pointed me to the site''s print.

I have two of these on the Xlab Wing, which I decided to test with 24 oz bottles on a rough road. Neither cage dropped a bottle. You do have to pull/push more than usual, a small price to pay for not losing a bottle.

Gorilla cages on my carbon wing on my tri bike great hold, and NO ejections over railway tracks close but nothing like the other carbon cages I have used AND i dont need to struggle to remove the bottle sure there is effort, but as opposed to loosing a bottle on a ride these cages work great!
