Aqua Vessel Tritan Filter Water Bottle with Flip Straw & 100 Gallon Filter

Before this bottle I used an EcoUsable Stainless Steel Filtered Bottle. My first impression of that bottle wasn''t the best. The straw and filter were really hard to drink from and what was worse was that eventually I couldn''t find the filter anywhere after 2 replacements. Looks like the company doesn''t operate in the USA anymore as I can only find links to the New Zealand company. So I thought it was about time to buy a new bottle and I came across the Aqua Vessel by EcoVessel. First off, it was half the price of the EcoUsable bottle which was awesome and second the filter was super easy to drink from AND it actually touches the bottom of the bottle making sure to take in all the water in the bottle. This bottle is seriously really awesome and I''m excited to have it now. I''m going away to school in a week and I''ll be hiking a lot near the campus so this bottle will be heavily used. EcoVessel has hit it out of the park with this bottle.

*UPDATE (1/11/2013) After using this bottle for just about a year I have decided to stop using it for two reasons. First, the filter simply does not last long enough for the amount of water that we should all be consuming especially when you consider the quality of water that is being filtered. I used this bottle frequently during my travels around the country and in areas with bad tap water and in rivers which the filter is rated for. A 3-month expiration on the filter is simple not long enough and I found I was spending way too much on filters as the months went on, this is not to say that it isn''t worth it for the quality of water that comes through. It tastes great!

My second reason for discontinuing my use with this bottle is the top. After two years I''ve had to replace the top twice and not because of issues with leaking, because of issues with what seems like mold in the orange rubber mouth piece and the straw that attaches to the top. After months of drinking, I would start to get sore throats and cough. I looked at the bottle and noticed this dark mildew on the inside of the rubber so I attempted to wash it with a vinegar mix but it was really hard to scrub inside the small opening so I just decided to throw it away and buy a new cap. The next cap actually began to look the same as the old one much quicker even while trying to keep it clean to prevent mildew from building up in the hole where the straw and cap meet. Amazon mistakenly sent me two caps on my last purchase so I could go ahead and just replace it again with a new one, but it just doesn''t seem worth it to me to keep throwing money at this company. I''ve just decided to start using glass bottles which taste much better but I don''t always have a filter option which is disappointing.

Anyway, I don''t know that I''ll use this product again, but I think in the future they should develop better components to the bottle to prevent this from happening. Since my last review I''ve deducted a star from my rating because overall the actual bottle is solidly built, the cap is sturdy and doesn''t leak, and the filter does its job wonderfully despite not lasting long. The rubber components however didn''t work out for me. Not sure if this has happened to others but just a heads up. If there is an explanation for this I''d be willing to consider that and revise my review.

Purchased this for a trip to the Middle East -easy to fill, easy to carry. First two fills I had to suck quite hard on the straw, but after that much easier. I didn''t worry about water quality in restaurants or hotel rooms in Jordan b/c I knew I was filtering the water. I didn''t test the water, so have no idea what I may or may not have saved myself from, but I stayed hydrated and well. What more can you ask for?

When I first used this product I had problems getting the water out. Like one reviewer experienced, mostly air was coming out. The problem was, I was raising the bottle up to drink like I do with my other water bottle. As soon as I discovered that if I kept the bottle vertical and sucked the problem disappeared. The water tastes great and it keeps water cold for a long time.

Was shipped and got here fast.

It is a simple small water bottle with a very large filter at he end of the plastic straw.

It did not have any instructions, not that you needed any, but you did need to wash the filter first, or you will get a lot of charcoal in the beginning.

I use it at work so I can save on bottled water and the environment.

It is good for 100 gallons or about 750 refills, seems to work OK, I do not taste a difference, but clearly the water is getting filtered.

It is not hard to pull through the straw.

I would have given it more stars if the water taste was clearly better.

But this beats a charcoal filer only bottle in terms of what you put in your mouth.

I am on the road a lot. I also do not use bottled water on principle and have been fine refilling my trusty big mouth aluminum bottle at drinking fountains and hotel fitness centers for years. My friend gave me an Aqua Vessel ultra lite for Christmas and I used it for the first time on my 4-day trip from CA to FL. After getting through TSA and filling the bottle at a water fountain, I tried drinking out of it. The water tasted great. However, a few sips later it became difficult getting water out of the bottle and I found myself sucking -hard -on it. I could only get halfway through the bottle, which somewhat defeats the purpose. Most assuredly, I will return to my trusty big mouth aluminum bottle on my next trip.
