This is an GOOD filter for being as tiny as it is. First let me say that you sould NOT drink water from any suspect water source, ESPECIALLY if you suspect VIRUSES. Filters alone cannot combat viruses. This filter claims to filter down to 1 micron. That will filter MOST of the Biological bacteria, but not all. This filter is only slightly less effective than the Katadyn Hiker, which can filter down to 0.3 microns.

According to the CDC, you should also chemically treat your water with commercially available Iodine, Clorine, or Clorine Dioxide tablets, or by using Clorine Bleach (unscented) or Iodine.

SODIS (SOlar DISinfection) is another good method, and can be used without a filter, but is more effective with the filter. SODIS requires CLEAR PET water bottles, CLEAR water, and 6 hours of sunlight. It used the Sun''s UV-A rays to kill bacteria and viruses.

Seems to work great. tried filtering some water from a pond and the water came out really clear, I would still boil the water before drinking though...
