Great canteen...with the bullseye ribs molded into the plastic. Holds water perfectly. Could be easily used by an adult and would be sturdy enough for reenactment use. The zipper would have to be changed out (simple job)but other than that a great deal and very fast shipping! You are also supporting the cause of historic preservation which is vital and enduring.

From afar the canteen looks authentic. The white strap covers the zipper. However the canteen itself is made of gray plastic. This is perfect for us as we''re only using it as a photo prop, however if you want it for actual reenacting you may need to make some modifications. First off, the cap is bright metal, you''d need to distress that a bit. You would also want to faux finish the inside plastic part of the canteen where it shows through the fabric.

As stated in a prior review, the plastic clips seem flimsy, if you intend on using this as an actual canteen you''ll want to limit the water level or reinforce the clips. Remember to sterilize the canteen before using as stated on the product itself. I would have doubts at the water holding capabilities of the cork just by looking at it''s construction, but I have not tried it myself.

Within 15 minutes of playing with it, we had to make adjustments and advise no more than 1 cup of water at a time to eliminate weight so the strap wouldn''t break the plastic clips that hold the canvas strap.

It was a cheaper version of the $65 canteen that authentic Civil War Re-enactors would buy, so we got what we paid.
