Reliance Products Aqua-Pak 2.5 Gallon Rigid Water ContainerLike every other reviewer, I was very happy to see this container is BPA free. I don''t know why large BPA free containers are not easier to find yet but it''s especially important for a long-term storage container. Also like every other I think the ability to store the spigot inside the container is brilliant. Note that there is a sticker over the hole in the lid that goes down to the "neck" of the spigot. If you are going to store this for a while or take it camping you may want to put a piece of tape over it to keep dust / dirt / bugs out after you remove that sticker the first time you use it.

Even brand new the container is *absolutely* odorless. The sides have raised graduations / level indicators. Every half gallon is labeled (with another in between, marking quarts) as well as each liter. According to these marks the container can hold a bit more than 2.5 gallons before actually being filled.

I noticed for some reason the dimensions of this container are not anywhere in the description presently. Since this is rather important for an item you may be storing (especially if you''re buying enough for a family''s emergency water) I measured mine so I could share them.

Dimensions for a FILLED container are 9" x 12" x 7-3/4". That last 7-3/4" width includes a *slight* bulging of the large sides when full.

We are storing water in our basement in case of emergencies disrupting the water supply.

I bought a 5 gallon Coleman water jug and this Reliance product to test them out before purchasing more to meet our goal of a two week supply of fresh water. Both jugs are fine, but the Reliance is my preference for three reasons:

1) It is BPA-free plastic

2) The spigot stores inside the cap (in the water), which strikes me as less likely to be snapped off accidentally in storage, and, obviously, less likely to be opened and spill water

3) 2.5 gallons is a manageable weight when full for a non-athletic woman like me. I like knowing I could grab a jug of water by myself if I needed one, rather than waiting for my husband to come home and help or hurting my back lugging 40+ pounds up the narrow basement stairs.

As an aside, we will empty, clean, and replace our water containers each summer to keep it fresh. We plan to use the water in our garden each year as we replenish them for freshness.

*UPDATE* When a huge water main break in the city of Boston this summer affected our suburban community, putting our town and many others on a "boil water" order for any consumption of water and even hand-washing, we were really glad to have this stored water ready to go in the basement. We are rotating our water supply in the summer, so this was almost 12 month old stored water. It tasted fine, and our family had no ill effects from drinking it. Grabbing a few gallons from the basement was less trouble than boiling every drop of water for our family of four for 10 minutes per potful over the course of 4+ days. I''m back to add a few more jugs to the storage rack now.

We wanted BPA free, solid water containers that were big enough to hold a decent amount of water but not so much it''s hard to carry. These 2.5 gallon Aqua Paks are perfect. No leaks, easy storage, easy to use tap, and easy to carry. They seem nice and solid, we bought two so far and will likely buy another two. We use them for all of our drinking water. Our well water is safe to drink, but has a strong iron taste so we buy bulk drinking water. These are the best containers we could find.

I received this as a birthday gift and when the first 2.5 gallon aqua-pak came it leaked from the spout/spiggot. I tightened it as much as possible but still it leaked. I tried tightening it with the spiggot out, still leaked. I thought it must''ve been a fluke, how could something so basic like the cap leak? Well, it was returned and another has been received and again the same problem. Leaks from the spout. It seems this would be a basic function of this item, to retain water (duh) but it doesn''t and I really wanted to be able to use this. Especially since I will be going camping this weekend, unfortunately this won''t be coming with me. Thank goodness for Amazon''s great return policy.

The spigot / cap on the water jug are weakly constructed. If you screw the spigot in too tightly, the housing will crack and leak.
