Platy Soft Bottle with Closure Cap

Platypus Bottle 2LiterThis holds 80 ounces, a little more than 2 liters (hence, the 2+L) and fits fairly well in my pack''s reservoir pouch. The fit is a little tight, but since it''s just a pouch it crumples up easily. I would strongly recommend buying the Platypus Drinking Tube. One thing that surprised me is that the plastic is different than I thought it would be. I thought it would feel like a really strong zip lock bag, but the plastic is harder and much stiffer. That''s for the best though since that makes it more difficult to puncture. I could probably drop this on some rocks from 5 or 10 feet and it wouldn''t bust.

I took both the 1 litre and 2 litre models of this water bottle with me to Australia for a 4 week trip and they worked wonderfully. Things I love about these bottles:

* They''re flexible they scrunch down to practically nothing when empty & are easier to maneuver around awkward water faucets and spouts than hard bottles.

* They''re sturdy I constantly use mine and just threw it in my backpack when I''m out and about. It''s still going strong with no leaks or tears.

* Water doesn''t acquire tastes or odors from the plastic. Even water I''ve left in the bottles for a few days remained palatable.

* The one litre model can be stood up on a flat surface. Technically, the 2 litre bottle can as well, but it tends to tip over when full.

I''d also recommend buying the sports-bottle type spouts which are sold separately for traveling and general convenience.

The best thing about this product is the price you pay for a large, transportable water container. Where products like camelbak can be horrifyingly overpriced, you can purchase this guy and put it in a back pack.

It''s also quite durable, I''ve filled it with water and dropped it onto the floor from several feet above and it just won''t bust, it''s clearly made to last.

However, the most troubling thing about this product is really the mouth piece. It''s tiny, and therefore hard to fill and clean. I''m not sure who imagined that having a small opening for a water container would be practical but it clearly isn''t. To tell you the truth I wouldn''t even consider buying a second one unless that was changed. Oh, and maybe if it had a handle, that be great too.

In the meantime this product does serve it''s purpose, I have taken this thing around everywhere and it does well, it''s durability does surprise me.

This is product is a novel idea and great for vacations or travel. I took this deflatable bottle on a trip to Niagara Falls, so that meant flying to Buffalo, NY and driving across the border. First of all, its great to have this empty bottle folded up and take literally no room. Plus you don''t have any liquid restrictions going through TSA at the airport. Then when you arrive at your destination, fill it up at a drinking fountain or save money buying a gallon or two of water and fill this 1 liter bottle for each day of your travel. At full capacity it takes what normal 1 liter bottles occupy in space, but the best part is that it decreases in size as you drink. For me, what I did on my trip was filled it up and placed it in my checked luggage (no leaks whatsoever) before going to the Falls. Its strong enough to endure baggage handling inside a luggage full of stuff. The cap size seems to be similar to the normal soda bottle so it might be compatible in case you ever lose the original cap. Another idea is that you can switch the cap with one of those nipple bottle caps found on sports drinks for easy drinking. I might try this soon because the way the water comes out of this deflatable bottle is VERY fast. Since no air has to come back into the bottle to fill the void of the water coming out, the water basically comes out in a gushing overflow if you are not careful. The first time my gf tried it she instantly spilled water all over her face and chest. It was hilarious. I got scolded after that. So there you have it. Hope this review helps!

I used two of these recently when my wife and I went on a cruise. They packed very well and were undetected by security on the ship. It saved us tons of money on alcohol and I imagine it would have been quite easy to refill them off the ship and sneak back on if we needed too. The cap is very well made and the plastic on the bag is heavy duty. Good purchase overall if you are looking to take a large volume of liquid somewhere.
