Blackburn Mountain Bicycle Water Bottle Cage

Blackburn Mountain Bicycle Water Bottle CageThe photo for this item is incorrect. For the silver color, it is not silver. Rather it is a kind of matte gray color. The photo would suggest that it is of a material that is, in fact, shiny silver in color itself. Instead, the item is finished with the matte gray. Also, it is of wider gauge metal and has a large nub at the peak of the front curve (for holding the bottle). In my case, I am concerned about the aesthetics and so these were disappointing deviations from my expectation. So, I would complain that the photo is inaccurate and falsely advertises the product. It is, however, functionally consistent with my expectations.

This is a relatively simple product, but as far as I can tell, it''s of good quality and will hold up for a long time. In my experience, the main problem with water bottle cages is either rusting or losing their ''grab'' (being bent or otherwise losing their shape so they don''t hold your bottles anymore). These are extremely lightweight (aluminum) but still thick and sturdy -they have not changed shape one bit, but still have the flexibility to make placing/removing bottles a breeze on the go.

Installation was a snap -pre-drilled holes lined up perfectly with the factory holes on my bike''s frame (Trek), just be sure you retain the screws that come with the bike (none included with cages). Didn''t bother timing it, but there''s absolutely no way it took more than 120 seconds (most of that time was spent cranking the Allen wrench).

Also, because they are aluminum, rust/corrosion isn''t a problem. I use them on a road bike as I don''t trust the plastic cages many road-riders use (have a tendency to break them). My old cages were made of some sort of steel (or other heavy metal...), and these feel just as strong but much more lightweight. They fit my bike''s finish well, and feel strong enough to last a lifetime. I will update if anything changes, but as of now, they seem to be excellent cages.

The cage I received wasn''t the one shown in the picture, it was this one instead:

Bike shops in my area charge upwards of $15 for aluminum water bottle cages without PLANET BIKE or TOPEAK printed on them, so it was worth it to me to wait for shipping.

I bought two for my young daughter and son''s bikes. They both fit and work well. Note, however, that you''ll need to go out and get some self-tapping screws to mount them, because they are not included (unfortunately).

I bought this cage at a local bike shop because it was the least expensive one. It works great with standard biking water bottles, and is all you need. Good fit and good price!
