The cages themselves are beautifully machined and attached with no problems to the bike. The black finish is fairly glossy and there were no chips or scratches upon receipt. As far as how they perform, what can I say? They hold my water bottles just fine, and there is no rattling of the cage against the frame of the bike. They seem to be a bit stiffer than a standard metal water bottle cage as far as insertion and extraction of the water bottle is concerned, but it is not too problematic.
As noted above, buying these fancy cages was more of a cosmetic consideration than a performance oriented one. My bike is white with black lettering and some very dark blue on the rear seatstays. I bought the black cages to offset the white frame and match with the black handlebar tape and black saddle. I almost pulled the trigger on the white ones with black Lezyne lettering, and I''m still kind of regretting that I didn''t purchase those in lieu of the black ones, just to see how it changed the look of the bike. I still might do it.
The cages are pricey, especially since they are equivalent in price to some of the carbon cages out there, but they are quality, and I can''t imagine one ever breaking. You could probably say the same about a three dollar metal bottle cage as well. It is not a rational decision purchasing cages such as these, but if you are like me, many of your bicycle and bicycling related purchases will not be rational decisions. These were purchased for vanity''s sake, pure and simple. Taken in that context, they have more than satisfied this customer.
