Glass Hydration Decanter Carafe Sport Bottle

Purchased this Glass Hydration Decanter as alternative to plastic drinking bottles. Also purchased Ello PURE 20-oz Glass Water Bottle with Silicone Sleeve (see comparison notes at end of review).

Pros:

very nice looking,

good size (holds enough for good size drink, so you will not have to constantly refill and is not too top heavy to tip over easily vs. the larger/taller size glass bottles)

fits well in std car cup holder (about the same diameter as a soda can, so if soda cans fit well in your cup holder, this decanter will too)

super wide mouth opening (makes for easy no-spill refills at water fountain, sparklets water cooler, soda fountain, etc.)

Cons:

Lid fits tightly and does not leak when properly screwed on. However, threads are very tight and somewhat finicky. Must use 2 hands to screw lid back on properly (one hand to hold decanter and one hand to screw on lid). Not sure why, but some containers I can get the lid screwed on using just one hand, which is very handy when driving. So this decanter not as convenient when driving.

Super wide mouth sometimes let''s too much liquid out when drinking (you get dribbles down side of your mouth). Somewhat operator error (me trying to chug), but slightly disadvantageous at times.

BIGGEST ISSUE: Description does NOT say BPA FREE, NON-LEAD glass, approved for food use. After I received the decanter, decanter says "Made in China" with no other markings. I did not realize it until I got my other glass bottle (Ello bottle) and Ello bottle had all sorts of BPA-free, lead-free, FDA approved Food-Grade glass type descriptions. Made me wonder if this decanter is same quality level (especially the FDA approved for Food use)!!

The whole point of getting a glass decanter was to avoid chemicals in plastic. Not sure if this glass decanter meets that objective. The selling company is Simply Green Solutions, so you assume it is "green", but nowhere in description or on decanter does it say BPA free, lead free, approved for food use, etc. Lack of disclaimers and "made in China" are somewhat worry some. Note I am not bagging on China manufacturing (they make some great stuff and some junk). However, in China they have different safety standards and this decanter may or may not meet USA FDA approval for food use.

So based on safety concerns, only 2 stars (although it functions very well as a decanter, just not sure if great for food).

Side note: Also purchased the Ello PURE 20-oz Glass Water Bottle with Silicone Sleeve from Amazon. Ello is not a pretty as this glass decanter, but has silicon sleeve (helps prevent cracking or chips), wide mouth, and meets FDA and California Prop65 standards (Lead & Cadmium free), BPA free, etc. per description (assume they are not lying??).

So until safety concerns cleared up (which vendor may clarify at some point in the future), I would purchase the Ello again instead.

I came upon this bottle in my search for a non-plastic water bottle. I was sick of the plastic fumes and taste that plagued most of my previous water bottles. I decided to give this glass bottle a try. This thing is great for the price. Very simple and elegant. I opted for the chrome lid and I have no regrets. It has held up so far and I no longer get that plastic-y taste in my water. Plus putting fruit in my water now makes it look extra fancy. The only reservations I have on this bottle is that because of the fact that it is a glass bottle, I do have to be a lot more careful handling it and making sure I''m not throwing it around in a sack pack or backpack. But other than that, if you''re looking for a great alternative to those plastic water bottles out there, this is a very cheap and elegant alternative.

This is a pretty nice little water bottle to sit on my desk not to flashy, but has a nice solid glass weight to it. Very little chance of it breaking, as it is pretty darn thick. The cap has a seal that works perfectly so there have been no leaks as of yet. All in all a great investment for the price.

I ordered two of these bottles, one each blue and green cap. They come really handy for taking my fresh juiced veggies to work for lunch. The seal is tight, leakproof and easy to clean. I did order a bottle brush which really helps in the cleaning of the bottles. My only issue is that they are made in China...I''d like them to be made in the USA...

Love this bottle! I have spent so much money on plastic bottles: normal bottles, wide-mouth bottles, bottles with filters, you name it. But no matter how little or how much I spent, they would always get that "plastic" taste to them. This bottle is amazing because when I drink out of it, I taste...nothing! Which is exactly what I want to taste when I''m drinking water. The mouth is very wide, but I haven''t had a problem drinking from it. The cap screws on very securely. I throw it in my work bag in the morning, and it has never leaked a single drop. It is made from thick glass, so I''m sure it is very durable, but I would be careful not to drop it. Very well-made.
