Pura 1.2L Stainless Steel Water Bottle with Stainless Loop Cap Save 2% off

I bought this because of it''s stainless steel cap. Why people make these stainless steel bottles with plastic caps is beyond me. I was worried that it would leak but it doesn''t! Forms a nice seal, no leaks, highly recommend!

I never actually bought much bottled water, but we would buy one now and then and then re-use and refill it from our Brita filter pitcher. I feel SO much better to be done with those plastic bottles!

Pluses:

This bottle is all stainless steel and is actually a good size, unlike so many others out there that are just too small.

The loop top makes it really easy to just hook my finger through, or an old dog leash works great!

The wider mouth makes it easy to put in ice cubes.

Minuses:

Because the top is also steel, it''s a little noisy opening and closing.

The size of the opening is really awkward for me to drink from without spilling, especially on the move.

Because it''s steel, it doesn''t keep things cool, but I made it a kind of snuggy and it''s more insulated now.

I love it!

After a lot of thinking and comparing, I decided to buy the pura water bottle and I couldn''t be happier. Stainless steel is much cheaper that aluminum and does not require that funky liner that eventually will wear away. Although aluminum bottles are much prettier and offer more choices, I felt for Sigg bottles, you pay more for the pictures and get less. In the end, I use a water bottle to hold and drink water, not as a fashion accessory (besides I heard most of the designs smear off so why bother). It has a lifetime warranty for leaks and dents (never had a problem so I don''t know much about their customer service or how they back it up). I have dropped and dinged my bottle and so far no leaks or dents. The paint is chipping off a little on the rim of the bottom though (probably from me putting it on hard surfaces like sidewalks) and the blue ink that says PURA and "Stainless Steel" is smearing off (Warranty doesn''t cover that). The mouth is really wide for ice cubes and the metal lid is a plus over Klean Kanteen, which you have to order separately. Yes the black part of the lid is plastic but it doesn''t touch the rim when you screw the lid on (there is a silicon like ring that seals the bottle though if you care). It was a little bigger that I thought it would be (1.2 L) and doesn''t fit in some cupholders but that''s fine and it''s really light for its size. Never had a metal taste but I did swirl some vinegar and lemon juice in it when I got it.

I''ve been using this bottle for about 3 weeks now. I like it a lot. However, it can get quite heavy when filled up with liquid, so this might discourage people from wanting to use it (feels like a 3-4 pounder). The weight isn''t an issue with me b/c I wear a book bag every where I go so I just drop it in and head out (besides, i just view it as extra excercise). Though do note that it''s entirely too big for any kind of cup holder (doesn''t fit in my car).

Also, the cap and bottle is made of steel, thus when opening and closing it will make a loud sqeaking noise each and every time.

Wide mouth makes it very easy to clean, as well as dropping ice into my drinks. Though, never freeze it b/c I read that it can cause the bottle to explode like a soda can. I got the orange 1.2L bottle and it''s a beautiful vibrant orange (way better than the pic on the screen). As some have said, there is a metalic taste to it, but after about 3 wks of use, the metalic flavor have become much more subtle. It doesn''t bother me but some might find the taste offensive. My 5 yr old nephew thinks the water tastes weird when it''s in my stainless steel bottle. You can try soaking white vinager in it overnight to see if that helps rid the metalic taste.

Last week, I accidentally dropped it and there''s now a giant dent at the base of the bottle, but it''s still completely functional. In fact, I''ll bet my bottle can take quite a beating. The reason why I picked PURA was because on PURA''s own website, they have a limited lifetime warrenty, so I highly recommend registering your bottle on their site after getting it so that when it''s rendered nonfunctional, you can get a replacement for free. Best part is that you can also recycle the old one that you no longer need.

PS: If you take good care of it, the paint won''t chip off either!! Definitely a high quality product!!!

UPDATE (7/16/10): My cap broke (the metal piece and the plastic piece separate). I contacted Pura thru their website, and the CEO emailed me back the next day. He was very nice and told me that he''ll send me a new top free of charge. I got a replacement cap by the end of the week. Great customer service!
