I''d like to begin by saying that gel flasks are a great idea; they allow you to carry multiple servings in a tidy way that doesn''t create a mess in your pocket. These also allow you the freedom to make your own gels using ingredients such as brown rice syrup.In order to get the best experience you should use a low viscosity gel that flows easily.
In selecting this flask I ruled out Hammer''s version because I didn''t want to have to deal with the secondary cover. Seemed like if you needed one of those you might be looking at leakage if kept in a jersey pocket.
I also purchased a couple of softpaks but did not like the flow rate--even with a thin gel like Hammer I felt like I had to bite and squeeze too hard to get anything out.
This Ultimate Direction flask, by comparison, is quite good both for cycling and for running (with the belt holster). The valve doesn''t leak, it''s not too difficult to pop open and has a good flow rate. I also like the numbers on the side which help you measure servings. This is helpful if you''re going out for a short ride and only need 1 or 2 shots.
For cleaning the mouth was just large enough to fit a bottle cleaning brush.
All in all there is really nothing I''d change. I bought 5 to keep clean ones handy and to have a stock in the case that I drop one or two during a race and can''t retrieve it.
I highly recommend going with the three pack of Nathan bottles for value''s sake. Those are probably still a bit overpriced, but much more reasonable than this.

Didn''t fit in my belt loop holes on my runner''s belt, too wide around the bottom and pretty heavy when filled. Maybe that is not the purpose but I don''t really know how to carry it when running. Maybe it''s better for a biker.Read Best Reviews of Ultimate Direction 4oz Gel Flask Here
