What the other reviews don''t tell you is how this works exactly, which is what I was curious about when I bought it. Basically, it''s a standard bottle cage, except there''s a little button underneath that you can''t see from the picture. When you press the button, it releases the case so that you can expand or compact it. You can actually do this with the water bottle in the case so you''re not guessing and creating a nice snug fit. The button is flat with the bottom of the cage so it doesn''t protrude and won''t get snagged. You can also fine-tune the case after you''ve positioned it to where you want by turning the thumb screw on the front of the case (you can actually see this in the pic). That allows you to really get a perfect fit around any bottle, say if it has special grips or isn''t quite snug enough after using the button, etc. Otherwise, it works and feels like any other cage and doesn''t take up any more width. It is definitely taller that other cages, like those carbon fiber ones. So this is good for carrying non-standard bike bottles (like bringing your cocktail to the beach). If your bottle is taller than normal and you have a small bike frame, this works perfectly well with the Topeak X 15 Waterbottle Cage Adapter.

I ordered this holder because I heard it would fit a 32oz nalgene. I just received it and after stretching the holder a bit the nalgene fits nicely. I cannot comment on the durability since i have not even taken it for a ride. I am a commuter and the ability to take the nalgene out of my pack and place it onto my bike is nice. Please spare me the "why would you even want to ride a bike with a screw top bottle" Because i do thats why. I searched all over for a bottle holder that would fit my nalgene and found little. I hope this review helps those who were in my shoes.

California summers are known for being really dry so I invested in a water bottle cage to hold my 750mL Camelbak water bottle. I did a bunch of research beforehand and it seemed to be the most popular cage that came stock with high end bikes. Moreover the cage has rubber pads to prevent bottle rattle and an adjustable base to accommodate larger water bottles. I have yet to take it out for a long test ride but upon installation, I noticed a few flaws. Even with the adjustable base, the 750mL Camelbak BARELY fits with the widest setting. I''m never one for stuffing something till it bursts but I have to make an exception for this if I''m going to make it work. I''m afraid if I keep taking it out and stuffing it back in, the base will eventually break. The base does have some considerable wiggle to it which is inevitable since it is built in two parts to be adjustable. The rubber pads seemed ingenious on paper but upon real world application, it made inserting the bottle and taking it out quite hard to do. There''s a lot of resistance which can be annoying during a long bike ride. Don''t get me wrong, it serves its original purpose of eliminating rattle very well but note that there will be a trade-off. All in all, it''s lightweight and innovative for something that costs 10 bucks!

I purchased two of these, one for the road bike and one for the mountain bike. I wanted the adjustable cage because I''m always using or reusing various size bottles. The smallest setting holds those cheap, thin plastic water bottles you buy in the grocery store and the largest setting holds the standard size workout bottles that have the indentation around the top. Once installed on the mountain bike I hit the trail for a ten mile, single track trail ride. The trail consisted of everything from smooth hard packed soil to holes, rocks, ruts and roots. Rough enough to shake things apart. I ride my trails as fast as I can without loosing it and without abusing the bike. I tested the holder with three bottles, the standard sized bike bottle with the teeth pull opening, a Poweraid bottle that I reuse and the standard size, grocery store water bottle made out of the cheap thin plastic.

The cage held all three size bottles at various fluid levels over the roughest terrain. Not once did any bottle get jarred loose or come close to falling out. Even the thin plastic bottle was held firm both full and empty. I stop to drink when trail riding and the bottles slide in and out of the cage easily. I actually put a little silicone on the rubber coating of the wire cage to facilitate removal. Not that it needed it but it did make it smoother. The cage passed this test with 100% and I am content with it.

On the road bike one does not need to worry about the bottle falling out unless you get hit by another vehicle, in which case it will probably not concern you anyway. The bottles slide in and out easily and I am content with this application as well.

I recommend this cage for both road and mountain biking as it holds the various size bottles you will use and holds them well.

This bottle cage is easy to install and easy to adjust. I can fit huge insulated polar insulated bottles without problem as well as 12 ounce store bottled water. Adjusting is very straight-forward. I like to ride the trails on my mountain bike and haven''t had a bottle pop out of this cage yet.
