My three kids picked this water bottle for their lunch boxes this year. They love the water bottle, however, two of the three bottles have slightly broken after one month of use. The lock button broke off on one of them. My son can still use it, but I worry that it will leak, however, I haven''t had a backpack full of water yet. The hole that leads to the straw on my other son''s bottle won''t open up. Therefore, when he tries to use the straw nothing comes up. My son has to unscrew the top to drink. This causes fighting between my boys no one wants the one with the broken straw.

I''m going to return the two broken ones and get replacements. If they break again, I won''t buy them again.

This would be the best if they could get some quality control on it. (The lid is the problem... the bottle is the typical bulletproof made in the USA Nalgene quality, but the lid is made in China and doesn''t seem to be near the same quality)

When this lid is functioning properly it''s amazingly handy. The one I received though had a crack where the straw meets the lid. I put a customer photo up of the failed lid. Nalgene is sending me another lid, but I''m left wondering how long it will last.

The plastic surrounding the straw is fairly thin and the first lid didn''t survive having the straw inserted a single time at the factory. How many times will I be able to insert the straw into a replacement of the same design before it fails as well?

Only time will tell. When I''ve had the replacement lid for a little while, I''ll update this review one way or the other...



I got my replacement cap really quickly. 5 days after sending the photo of the broken cap to Nalgene. Quick customer service. I still haven''t received an answer on how long the warranty is on these. Answering that question has been dodged twice so far...



I sent a third, entirely separate inquiry on the "guarantee" of the lid 2 weeks ago and received no response.

I do professional voiceover work and need a need a dependable water bottle to take into the sound booth. It has proven so handy that I''ve had many other voiceover people ask me about it. I recently bought a 2nd one for my lovely wife who takes hers to her dental hygiene job where she spends hours on her feet and needs a spill-proof bottle that has quick easy drinking access for those precious few times when she can take a drink.

Pros:

* Durable

* "Sippy straw" is great when I''m in the booth or driving so I don''t have to up-end the entire bottle to take a drink.

* Spill proof when closed.

* Can refill the bottle through the small cap opening and not have to remove the entire lid. Very handy at drinking fountains.

Cons:

* Small. 20oz isn''t enough at times. They need to make a bigger version

* Can leak through the straw when open if you don''t know the trick, which is to loosen the the other small cap to let air flow through, that way air doesn''t get compressed and force water out the straw. Otherwise, it works reall really well.

In short the pros far outweigh the cons. I''m buying a couple more for my two beautiful daughters because they''re super handy on road trips.

I was really depressed when I opened the cupboard the other day to find my wife and my bottles had both cracked on the top part of the lid. After checking reviews here, it sounds like I''m not alone. If you purchase this bottle, you will undoubtably have the same problem as it doesn''t break or crack because of abuse but rather it''s a faulty design. A shame too, because I think it looks cool and I liked having the sip come out the front so I don''t have to throw my head back when on the exercise bike.

At any rate I would really encourage everyone not to purchase this bottle as it''s lid is in fact defective and I have yet to get any response from the Nalgene website as to what I''m supposed to do to remedy their defect. Pretty t''ed off about it too because I live in Japan and these things run near 20 bucks a piece here!

Common'' Nalgene, straighten up! You guys almost make incredible products, you just need the quality on ALL parts of your stuff!

Bought two of these for me and my wife. The lid on her bottle split nearly completely in half, so we''re basically left with a big plastic cup. Mine has held up, but it leaks through the straw/sipper -just sits there and dribbles, and when you pick it up there''s a nice puddle. Nalgene is known for its quality BPA free bottles, but this model just doesn''t measure up. I would not buy this model again.
