Kids Bobble Bottles, Reusable Water Bottle with Filter (13 oz)

Kids Bobble Magenta Band Filtered Water BottleSo this Bobble was purchased for my son by a friend and I fell in love. The colors are great and (since I had to squirt the first bottle of water thru) I tried it first. The taste is much better than the tap water where I live. I would equal it to a regular bottle of water (cold from the Bobble is even better) but not as good as SmartWater. Those of you picky about the taste of your water know what I mean :) The packaging says for children 2yrs old and up and I think is a good suggestion. My 18 mth old son couldn''t squeeze the bottle well and ended up sucking on it. It does say that the bottle can crease if older children squeeze too hard so I let my 4yr old students try and they couldn''t crease it so I think its well-made. It comes with four stickers to personalize it and other color choices so you can distinguish between siblings'' Bobbles. Dishwasher safe would have been five stars!

I bought this water bottle for myself rather than for any kid. :) But I did give the stickers to my neighbor''s kid. I''m a small female 5''2, and I just don''t need to drink as much as a normal sized man would (few people know the whole 8 cups of water per day minimum thing was based on what the average adult male might need). And since I work half my hours at home I do most of my drinking at home anyway. So for transport I don''t like to lug around a 16 or 20 oz bottle which I usually don''t get around to drinking completely before getting back home anyway. This cute 13 oz bottle fits the bill. The size fits great in my small hands and unlike my friend''s regular sized bobbleit fits in my gym bags water bottle compartment without a fight. Plus I like the fun colors on the filter which just make it more fun to drink from. It makes a funny noise while drinking, but that doesn''t bother me much.

The idea is great, and very economical. However, its not very pratical, at least for my 2 year old. She has no problem drinking the water. This is a curse and blessing all in one. It takes absolutely no effort whatsoever for her to simply twist the filter from the Bobble, and thus water ends up everywhere. If the manufacturers could find a way to make the removeable filter harder to remove by young hands, I would give this product for this age group 5 stars.

One star for the design so attractive my kids want to drink water all the time and have stopped begging for juices and sweet drinks. Other than that it is impractical, most kids are curious and they want to reach for the filter all the time. There is no o-ring under the cap to keep a safe tight seal ANY baby or kid can easily unscrew the cap and empty contents everywhere. My 9 mo keeps doing that on his elder brother''s bottle and sucks on the filter. That brings me to the other hang up. The Bobble is not dishwasher safe. The bottle portion must be hand washed and the filter portion can only be rinsed with running water no soap. In time, bacteria, dirt and mold will accumulate and therefore it is unhygienic. If you have one of these for your toddler may I suggest you only give it when fully supervised. If you can''t then stick to using sippy cups with filtered water the traditional way.

Next, the filter is just a simple carbon filter which gives water a false sense of pure. I have bought one Bobble for my son and an adult one for myself, together we have been using them for around 2 mos now. Recently purchased a Zero Water filter jug on impulse and that''s one impulse purchase we are not regretting. Using the electronic gauge probe that came with the kit the water filtered from a Bobble had a 197 reading. Our unfiltered tap water has a 204 reading. This means there are still plenty of dissolved impurities in the Bobble filtered water as properly filtered water should have a 0-50 reading.
