I purchased this to use for camping and kayaking in place of a military surplus 1 quart canteen. Water has no plastic taste to it at all after washing it and using it for the first time. In contrast, my army one has always had some plastic-ish type flavor to the water ever since it was new. This canteen is the same shape and size as the military version and as such fits right into the canteen cup and holder. The only thing I was surprised about was the flexibility of the plastic. It is more flexible than a round Nalgene Tritan container, not like a squeeze bottle or anything, just more flexible than the round ones. Not that it''s a bad thing, however, I expected it to be just as hard.I''ve used military canteens since I was a kid in the 1960''s. Had a Korean war aluminum 1 quart I carried in my saddle bags then. I have used the LC2 1 quart in an enhanced(fake fur lined for evaporative cooling on the plains) pouch on a belt and in my truck for EDC for the last 20 years. Have carried the 2 qt collapsible canteen on my saddle for the last 10 yrs. I got the Nalgene red tritan oasis canteen for my backpack because I wanted a light weight Nalgene product without the taste of mil canteens or BPA. The camelback bags are ok for reservoirs but I prefer the narrow mouth bottles to suckin on the tube(that''s just my thing). The new tritan poly 1 qt mil spec canteen was the cat''s meow because it is less bulky than the round bottles and would slide right in the side pouches on my backpack. Although, the other day I had it in my town truck and may have lost it to my girly girl wife who drank from it goin to town the other day. She says, "It''s clean, don''t stink and I can see what I''m drinkin". (We use filtered water from our house well.) I''ll just have to get another one now for my pack. I liked it so good I got the coyote brown tritan canteen distributed under the Black Hawk name, for EDC in the truck, on horse and foot. It fits my pouches which have the mil spec stainless cup and stove to make a good basic survival hydration gear. This new generation canteen is clean, clear and tough. No funky plastic taste. Can''t beat em for light weight, durability, sanitary and easy to clean for personal water carry.

Somehow I''m happy I spent $14 for something you can buy at a surplus store for $3. Compared to my old USMC canteens, they''re very similar. The Nalgene cap is better, it''s clear(ish), but it fits into my canteen pouch (and canteen cup) just like the original. Compared to the wide mouth bottles, the canteen is more ergonomic in the hand, is easier to drink while walking or driving, and triggers that canteen CHUG impulse. The only things better with the wide mouth are the ease of adding ice or mix powders, price, and the accessories if you''re into that type of thing. The wide mouth also fits in my truck cup holder where the canteen doesn''t quite make it. I''m drinking from the canteen right now and I should elaborate more on the cap. Its much smoother than the military canteen caps, you can spin it off with one finger and the retention strap is long enough to hold the cap and bottle in your hand while drinking (you can hold the bottom of the canteen if you want, it''s that long), and the cap isn''t heavy enough to tip over the empty bottle while its hanging. I really cannot emphasize the CHUG factor enough--I like it so much better than the wide mouth bottles, even though its not hard lexan.Read Best Reviews of Nalgene BPA Free Tritan Oasis Canteen 32 Oz Narrow Mouth Bottle Here
Nalgene''s BPA Free Tritan Oasis Canteen is a great replacement for a standard military canteen. I purchased three of them because the Army is issuing CamelBak hydration systems rather than standard canteens. After a month of hard field use in a variety of temperatures and conditions they''ve held up great. I''ve dropped kicked them, had them frozen, and neglected to clean them and I have still had no issues with them. The canteen doesn''t transfer any taste to the water and its clear so you can keep tabs on the water level.Want Nalgene BPA Free Tritan Oasis Canteen 32 Oz Narrow Mouth Bottle Discount?
I purchased 2 of the Nalgene Oasis gray canteens to replace the old 1980''s era US Army canteens I had. While they did their job, the US Army canteens made the water in them taste like plastic. The Nalgene Oasis canteens fit perfectly in the US Army steel canteen cups and canteen covers. They leave no strange taste in the water and seem to be very well made. I also like that they are translucent. I can see how much water is in them and if there are contaminants. I just wish Nalgene would use black caps on the gray canteens instead of blue. I had to purchase black caps separately. That''s not really anything bad about the canteens, just a personal color preference.
