I am absolutely blown away by the length of time this mug keeps things hot or cold! Coffee poured fresh at the store is still almost too hot to drink after 2 hours, and my iced drinks stay that way for the entire workday. The outer layer never gets hot or cold to the touch, so the hot/cool temperature is perfectly sealed inside. I love that I can fill this thing and literally throw it in my bookbag. No matter which way it lands, things stay dry.
No, it doesn''t have an open, "drink-through" lid, but this is part of the reason it''s completely leakproof and keeps beverages so hot/cold. The Metro Mug is more like a classic Thermos. If you''re looking for more convenience at the expense of a little temperature retention, this mug is not for you.
Yes, it''s only 12 ounces, but I prefer quality coffee and tea over quantity, so that''s a perfect size for me. It may not be suitable for those who like to chug their caffeine in the mornings, but it''s perfect if you''re constantly on the go and looking for a very portable, durable container.
Also, for those who might be concerned, it appears they''ve updated the packaging. While it does say it''s made in China, it also clearly states that it was done so "responsibly" and with "on-site quality control". I''m sure this won''t abate the fears of the super-paranoid, but then again, there isn''t much that can. Buy it at your own risk, but I assure you, it''s a risk worth taking.I have had this mug for over 3 years. It lasts long there is no question about that. BUT this is NOT a drinking mug. For example, you must entirely unscrew the top of the mug just to take a small sip. This inevitably leads to spillsI had this mug open on my desk while at school and a student slightly bumped into my desk and the mug (being so narrow) fell over and spilled everywhere! Embarrassing to say the least.
The design is beautiful yet very flawed. The narrow shape makes it easy to topple over. And the screw lid on the top makes it hard to drink from ( I''ve burnt myself many times).
There are sooo many mugs that are better than this. Even a cup is better than this "mug." I just recently bought a "Thermos Nissan JMW500P6 16-Ounce Stainless-Steel Backpack Bottle" and it is a million times better than this mug!
The one thing i liked about it was that it never leaked at all, and it was easy to clean. But those two reasons are still not enough to buy this monstrosity of steel hollowed out for hot beverages.

I bought the "Steel Works" by SIGG thermos in Afghanistan as I needed something to take on long missions outside the wire. It is very slender and fits comfortably in my cargo pocket. It seals well and keeps the contents, usually coffee, hot for several hours. If one gets in a jam, it can also double as a blunt edged weapon...LOLI find this thermos to be one of the best I have ever owned, and would reccommend it to anyone in need of a strong, sturdy, and well designed product.

After looking at the previous reviews I felt the urge to write this one to counter the negative comments. This is exactly what it looks like, a simple, unscrew the top, insulated mug. Its slender shape enables it to fit in even the smallest of car cup holders, and it does a good job of insulating hot drinks for a couple of hours, and cold drinks for about twelve hours. It has a wide opening, which I find handy for both cleaning and for being able to use the ice cubes that come from my 2" size cube trays. I find no negatives in this mug. It does not pretend to be a drink-thru mug, and I personally like the fact that it can go in my bag or backpack with nary a worry about leakage.Want Steelworks Metro Mug (Black) Discount?
The cap is a two part but unable to be used to drink from. Just a way of closing the seal without spilling if full and mostly pointless.Has to opened fully to drink from and when the (hot) drink is halfway down in level, it results in a splash back in your face (of a hot drink) every time after taking a sip.
Pointless and perhaps even dangerous. It is a very small thermos, not a drinking mug.
