1) The larger versions (which are great) have a gasket that prevents leaking so that you can lay the bottles in any direction. These 9oz ones do not and hence leak a little.
2) Their website now clearly lists out the details in the FAQ section and claims that "Beginning in mid-2011, all Lifefactory components will be manufactured in the U.S. and Europe. However, the inventory on Chinese made components (e.g., flat caps, cap/ring/stopper set) will be utilized until out of stock.". I unfortunately got a blue bottle that said the cap and sleeve were made in China. So, be warned that you may get one such. I would have preferred to wait until such inventory was ''purged''.
**Update 10/2012
I''m guessing the whole China parts thing was purged long ago. We''ve been somewhat careful (they are glass) but heavy users of these and they are still holding up great more than a year later. Sleeve is in good shape, water never aquires a ''taste'', can''t complain.
Buy Lifefactory Glass Beverage Bottle Now
It''s not lightweight like plastic or metal; but then again, it''s glass and not made in China. Not a bad tradeoff for no chemical or metallic aftertaste. The beverage taste is unaffected by the glass bottle. Only the cap is plastic, but the whole bottle and its components are independently tested to be free of BPA, phthalates, PVC, polycarbonates, lead and latex, according to the manufacturer. Components are made in France (bottle), United States (silicone sleeve) and Poland (cap).Lifefactory Pearl White Glass Beverage Bottle 22 oz bottle

Lifefactory Red Glass Beverage Bottle 22 oz bottle.I purchased this water bottle b/c I was tired of all the conflicting news regarding BPA free plastic. Some reports say even BPA free plastic is not good for you b/c of the other chemicals in plastic that are released into your water. I''ve tried 3 stainless steel bottles, ranging from $10.00 to $34.99, all boasting "no metallic taste". All of them have a metal taste to them. Yes, I''ve washed all of them with a vinegar/water solution or the Camelbak cleaning tablets but the water still tastes like metal. And no, it''s not in my mind b/c I''m smelling the metal and I perceive a metal taste. No Jedi mind tricks here. So, besides an aluminum lined stainless steel bottle (which I have tried also, but gave away b/c of the negative reviews), glass was the last alternative. I really didn''t want to use glass bottles for obvious reasons. They are heavy and sharp shards of glass if a breakage occurs. But this is really the only way to go. No metallic after taste and no residue from other drinks like juice and tea. Also no rust. I had a Sub Zero stainless bottle that started to rust in the bottom seam after only 2 uses in 3 days! Come on! Anyway, this bottle has a mid sized opening so you can add regular sized ice cubes and fit a bottle brush inside for cleaning. It''s not a large opening, which is good since you have to sip from it. Large openings tend to let liquid out the sides causing spills. Only negative thing, if you could call it that, is that the silicone sleeve is super tight. It''s hard to remove when you want to clean it. I guess that''s good so the bottle doesn''t slip out of the sleeve. Also, not as much dirt and debris can actually get in between the sleeve and bottle. Also the screw on top has a silicone gasket to prevent leakage. Don''t know why the lid has a loop. I wouldn''t hang this guy from a bag or belt. It''s heavy and GLASS! I just leave it in my backpack. The loop kinda gets in the way when you are putting it back on. Overall a great product and I recommend it to all who are looking for a better alternative to plastic and steel.Great bottle, but I wanted to inform everyone that they have new bottles with flip-tops. If you search amazon for "lifefactory flip top", you can order this style. If you have the original style, you can buy just the new matching color top for your current bottle. I find the new style much more convenient because I prefer to take a sip or two, and recap the bottle, which only takes a quick flip.
