Arundel Mandible Water Bottle Cage

Arundel Mandible Water Bottle Cage Matte 3K, One SizeThis is a great bottle cage that not only looks good, but works great.

It has just the right amount of holding power. Not too much, and not too little. Not much is worse than hitting a pothole, train crossing, or rough segment of road during a race and losing one of your water bottles. I''ve had bottles go flying with other cages. This one works perfect to hold them in, yet isn''t too tough to use on the road.

Every bottle I''ve used goes in nice yet holds strong. There''s a nice satisfying feel when the bottle seats in the cage. Camelbak Podium bottles work like a charm. Even at high speed group riding during a race (25+ mph), I''ve had no problems taking bottles in and out. No "swerving" of the bike here, and no lost bottles.

Bought these because I had some other carbon fiber cages that where dropping my bottles and seemed dangerous. These realy hold the bottles with some grip, but I have no trouble getting the bottle out when I need it.

I''ve got carbon fiber cages from Zipp on my racing bike (Trek Madone 6.9SSL) and two different models of the Arundel cages. I use the Mandible on my Trek Cronus Ultimate. They are light, rugged, and hold extremely well. I''ve read complaints about them being too tight but I''ve not found that an issue. I''ve used them with several different bottle types with no problems. With my Camelbak Podium Bottles they are perfect, even with the "Big Chill" insulated bottle. Even on rough roads and single track full bottles stay put. Lighter, more minimalist cages like my Zipps are great under most conditions, and perfect on my race bike, but not as secure as the Mandibles on rough roads. I also travel with my Trek Cronus a lot and never worry about the Mandibles getting damaged by the airport baggage guys. Yes, they are costly but you get what you pay for and you aren''t going to find good carbon cages for cheap. They are light, tough, durable, and work extremely well. So if you''ve got a carbon framed bike and want top end gear ... highly recommended.

Well, I thought will the Arundel reputation that these would be the perfect match for my carbon bike. Wrong! These cages are so tight that it''s nearly impossible to get the bottle in or out without serious bike swerve. I actually sent mine back to Arundel so they could assess whether I got a tight set. Nope! Same as all the others. So if you need to get your bottle in and out while riding, let me suggest another brand of cage.
